Artist Biography – Natascha Tamara van Hattem
Natascha Tamara van Hattem (1973, Maassluis) is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in the Netherlands and international. Her practice moves fluidly across performance, video art, photography, and digital transformation. The body—most often her own—becomes a living instrument through which she generates layered, sensorial images that explore the shifting boundaries between sexuality, corporeality, and digital aesthetics. By transforming personal presence into portable visual language, she redefines intimacy as an artistic field.
At the core of Van Hattem’s work lies the use of sexual energy as performative material. Rather than presenting the body as an object of consumption, she positions it as a site of attraction, empathy, and existential exchange. Her approach is radically direct: intimacy functions as a means to generate reflection, connection, and heightened awareness. Resonating with traditions established by Marina Abramović, Carolee Schneemann, and VALIE EXPORT, Van Hattem distinguishes herself by focusing on sexuality itself as a performative field of energy and inquiry. Key projects include *Ik Moet Niks* (Netherlands), *Reality is Spam* (Salviac, France), *B13* (Ibiza, Spain), as well as her ongoing initiatives *Patreon* and *Art Studio on a Boat* in the Netherlands.
Natascha Tamara van Hattem has presented her work internationally, with exhibitions and performances such as *B13* (Ibiza), *LoveTassie Music & Art* (Hollandskroon, Netherlands), and the documentary *Ik Moet Niks* (Ibiza-Netherlands-France). Her work is held in the collections of the Eye Film Museum (Amsterdam) and the Royal Library (The Hague). She has participated in national screenings including *Ik Moet Niks* (KRO/NCRV, NPO, Netherlands), as well as in *LivingArt* (Montfoort, Netherlands), a conceptual performance intersecting art, technology, and human rights.
